Dr. Rita Sonko

Founder & Director, Toli Wekka

Dr. Rita Sonko (MBChB, MPH) is a seasoned Public Health Physician with over 25 years of experience. She specializes in program design, monitoring, evaluation, learning, and quality improvement, focusing on mental health, child and youth development, and strategic advisory services. As a global consultant, Dr. Sonko has collaborated with organizations and governments across Africa and beyond, working with institutions such as the Global Fund, UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, and Save the Children.She is the Founder and Director of Toli Wekka, a pioneering mental health initiative with programs in East and Southern Africa, and for Africans in the diaspora. Dr. Sonko is also the founder of the Body Mind Wellness Clinic,which delivers mental health services through a professional network in South Africa as well as Fola Haven, a Medical Tourism business in Pretoria. An author of Gems of Wisdom: 94 Ways to Renew Your Mind and host of the podcast Wellness Teatime with Dr.Rita (on Spotify and YouTube), she is passionate about promoting mental health and well-being. A dedicated Rotarian, she is the current President of the Rotary Club of Pretoria East, and President of the Rotary Means Business Fellowship in Southern Africa.
