Speaker
Aliya Shah is an adolescent and adult psychologist practicing in Kenya for over three years. Aliya operates from a 'Think Global Act Local’ motto. In a rapidly changing world, the younger generation's experience differ greatly from those of previous ones, despite similar feelings of uncertainty and worry. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on our behavior and mental health, with increased attention on anxiety and neurodivergent disorders. A primary goal is to reassure people that it is normal to feel overwhelmed, stressed, and burnt out in this fast-paced era; it's our natural response to the environment. Growing up in Kenya and moving around various places has given her a multicultural insight that is reflected in her practice. Her unique academic and experiential background has shaped her outlook and approach. Currently, Aliya provides one-to-one therapeutic support for adolescents and adults, specializing in trauma and a range of behavioral issues. As the chair of communications at EMDR Kenya Association, Aliya is striving to reduce the stigma surrounding therapy services in Kenya and promote mental health awareness.
